serena-williams-engagement

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 24 hours, tennis superstar Serena Williams announced yesterday that she is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, with a poem, on her verified Reddit account, that read:

“I came home A little late, Someone had a bag packed for me, And a carriage awaited, Destination: Rome, To escort me to my very own “charming” Back to where our stars first collided, And now it was full circle At the same table we first met by chance, This time he made it not by chance But by choice, Down on one knee He said 4 words And I said yes,”

A reply from Alexis’ verified account said:

“And you made me the happiest man on the planet.”

Swooooooooooonnn………!!!!

Unfortunately, there was no hint of a wedding date in the posting so that means there’s time for me to find someone who knows someone who knows Serena so we can talk about these wedding plans. I’ll keep you posted.

Happily Ever After: Barbie and Ken Get Married

Barbie (nee Barbra Millicent Roberts) and longtime boyfriend, Ken Carson (better known as just Ken) met on the set of a TV commercial in 1961 and it was love at first sight.  But in 2004, the couple split, landing them on the covers of toy magazines everywhere.  Although never confirmed, it was rumored that the separation may have been caused by Ken’s reluctance to get married however Ken returned to Barbie’s heart in 2006 with a fresh makeover and a diamond ring!!

French photographer and owner of BdG Photography, Beatrice de Guigne, recently staged and photographed a beautifully creative and artistic reenactment of what was undoubtedly, a fairytale wedding day for the couple.  The photos are gorgeous and for a moment, I almost forget I’m looking at dolls.  I’ve included just a handful of the wedding pictures below but you can see the complete wedding album here.  Enjoy!

Oh…ps: Beatrice, please invite me to the next party! Please and thank you!

Do We Love It? Real Housewives of Atlanta, Cynthia Bailey, Wedding Dress Revealed

If you follow Bravo TVs drama reality series, Real Housewives of Atlanta, then you know the season finale will finally reveal whether or not self-confessed runaway bride, Cynthia Bailey actually says “I do” to 50 year old fiance, Peter Thomas.

Thanks to my bestie [@JenayeMarnique] I learned that the February issue of Essence will include an entire spread of the Bailey/Thomas wedding day but not before a leaked photo revealed the the statuesque fashion model draped in her custom-designed, gunmetal silver, Rubin Stinger wedding dress.

My initial reaction upon seeing the dress was one of shock, after all it is fiercely larger than life. I love the exaggerated style of the dress and the gunmetal/chocolate brown/white color combination. I even think she looks fabulously stunning in the nontraditional gown but they remind me more of a couple that is about to step out on the red carpet than one about to say their vows.

Cynthia and Peter did, however, tie the knot in a formal ceremony that took place on July 24th, 2010 at the Fernback Museum of Natural History (Atlanta, GA).  The couple, now 187 days into their new life together, posted a simple wedding website (which is disappointingly lacking in wedding recaps) and registered at Williams-SonomaBed Bath and Beyond, and Tiffany and Co. Despite recent rumors of possible marital challenges, we wish Cynthia and Peter all of the joy in the world in their new marriage.

The season finale of Real Housewives of Atlanta airs this Sunday, January 30th at 10:00pm on Bravo TV.

A Weekend of Celebrity Weddings

The last weekend of July went out with a bang with some of biggest names in entertainment finally saying I do and Vera Wang sweeping the “Most Brides Donning a Fabulous Gown” award!

Chelsea Clinton says “I Do” to Marc Mezvinsky at the very historic Astor Courts in Rhinebeck, NY
Not only did Chelsea double-dress herself in Vera Wang, wearing an ivory strapless gown for the interfaith ceremony and a silk tulle cross-back Grecian gown for the reception, but Vera was also the creative inspiration and designer for the bridesmaids dresses.

  • Officiated by Rabbi James Ponet
  • Besides having the former President of the United States walk her down the aisle, her very high profile guest list included THE Vera Wang (Yes! We know she was not THE MOST high profile guest but sorry, we LOVE her…no one else really matters).
  • Estimated price tag: $5M dollars…now there’s a PLATINUM wedding.

Alicia Keys says “I Do” to Kaseem “Swizz Beatz” Dean in Corsica, France
Grecian inspired dresses were predicted to be one of 2010’s wedding dress trends so it’s only apropos that Alicia decided to adorn her baby bump in a beautiful ivory gown designed by none other than…Vera Wang.

  • Officiated by Deepak Chopra
  • Guest List included Bono and Queen Latifah

Tameka “Tiny” Cottle says “I Do” to Clifford “T.I” Harris on Star Island in Miami, FL

Because I was raised to just say nothing in situations where there’s nothing good to say, I am refraining from saying much about Tiny’s strapless ivory gown designed by Valentino. Okay, just one little comment/question…if she had a wedding planner WHY didn’t they recommend a different dress? Not that it’s bad but it’s not screaming “Here Comes the Beautiful Blushing Bride” to me. Moving on…

  • Officiated by former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young
  • All of the “A”; including Usher Raymond, Jermaine Dupri, TLC’s Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, Bow Wow, Nelly, Ashanti, and Trina; descended upon Miami to help the couple celebrate their long-anticipated nuptials.

Kimberly Brock says “I Do” to James Van der Beek in Tel Aviv
This wedding was probably the most overshadowed by the Clinton/Mezvinsky wedding as we couldn’t find one interesting detail, or picture, about it outside of news that Kimberly wore a Shareen Vintage dress. BOR-ING! Oh wait, like Key’s she’s pregnant!

So final tally:

  • VERA WANG:2 +all of Chelsea’s Bridesmaids dresses
  • VALENTINO: 1
  • New Wedding Accessory: Baby bump (Oh, how I hope this isn’t the new trend!!)
