Vineyard Vows

Vineyards and wineries are the perfect wedding venue alternative for the couple who has a love of natural beauty and, of course, wine.  The vibrant greenery of a vineyard in spring needs few enhancements, making the minimalist approach not only aesthetically breathtaking but also budget friendly.  Wineries often host wine tastings, which is the perfect way to get the girls together to check out potential wedding venues, explore new wine pairings, and enjoy each other’s company.  You can look up wineries in your area by searching the national database of US wineries.

If you’re securing a vineyard for your wedding day, you may want to make sure you know the answers to the following questions before signing on the dotted line:

  • How many guests can be accommodated?
  • What is the basic fee and what does it include?
  • Is there a price break for days other than weekends?
  • How many hours may we have use of the venue?
  • Is there a weather contingency plan for outdoor venues?
  • Does the winery have in-house catering?
  • Can beverages other than the winery’s be served?
  • Are there any music restrictions?
  • Is there an area for dancing?
  • May all areas of the property be used for photography?
  • How about restroom facilities?
  • Is parking sufficient and convenient?
  • What about minors attending?

Pinwheel, pinwheel…

Pinwheels are an awesome, playful detail that can be incorporated into your outdoor summer event.  I will have the pleasure of incorporating them into a client’s graduation garden party but  you can also  incorporate pinwheels into your wedding or party decor by using them as reception decor; incorporating them into your cake; or have your bridesmaids carry them instead of bouquets. You can even make mini pinwheels for the guys to wear as an alternative to floral boutonnieres!

Preston Bailey’s Color Palette Picker

Preston Bailey – king of ALL things weddings – has recently released his Color Palette Picker to help brides and planners find some much needed color inspiration.  It’s a simple and easy  process that begins with the selection of the color you’re contemplating using as the main attraction:

Then you’ll be asked to select answers for HOW many guests are invited to your event, WHERE your event is taking place, WHAT the light source will be and, WHAT is the tone of your event and then you’ll select your PRESTON FACTOR:

The result is a  customized color palette along with some great suggestions for accent colors and a photo of an actual PB event for a little visual stimulation and ideas on how to bring it all together.

I must warn you that is it highly addictive so why not log on and get hooked now.  And then let us know what your recommended palette is.

Trend Alert: Trashing the Dress

I love all concepts of over-the-top creativity and artistic expression that fuel fresh new trends, including one that is gaining in popularity – trashing the dress. The concept emerged in 2008 and is looked upon as a form of rebellion against traditional wedding rules, especially those centered on gown preservation.  Essentially, brides are putting their wedding dresses back on for a high-fashion style of wedding photography featuring the dirtied, torn, burned, soggy remains of a once-pristine white dress and according to a recent article posted in the  Philadelphia Inquirer entitled Cherish the dress? Not them, trashing the dress is a trend that is currently practiced by 11% of all couples following their I do’s.   Pure fashion mutilation?  Maybe.  Admittedly, the thought of destroying a wedding dress in the name of art almost seems blasphemous but the article suggests that a post-wedding trash the dress photo shoot is “…an opportunity to preserve the dress as artwork to be hung on the wall as opposed to preserved in a box…” while “…  amplifying the gown’s in-the-moment beauty.”  After seeing some of the pictures, I may have to argue that they are right!

What do you think of Trash the Dress Photo Shoots?  Will you be doing one after your wedding?

Trix Aren’t Just For Kids Anymore…

Seems like Trix aren’t just for kids anymore.  Just went I thought I’d seen it all in wedding cakes, Betty Crocker showcases this sugary sweet picture of dessert perfection…

It gives me both a sugar rush and a tooth ache every time I look at the picture but the recipe looks like so much fun, I’m left with no choice but to add this to my list of meals to try at home.  And while I may not recommend it for a wedding, it seems like a perfect addition to your next children’s event.
